The annual Lathlain Primary School Quiz Night was held on Saturday the 13th of September. Although we had to compete with the Dockers semi final game, we still managed to get 138 people to attend the night and we raised nearly $7000.00 for the school ($6800 to be more precise). Michael Shultz was a great MC who kept the rounds moving smoothly and ensured no-one had time to get bored. Crowd participation was excellent as we had a impromptu group rendition of “The Gambler” – you know – “gotta know when to hold them, know when to fold them….”, was able to get eye witness evidence that you can indeed lick your own elbow, and discovered that even as parents we can still remember how to make a decent paper plane. Everyone got into the silent auctions and our second horse race in particular kept the crowd amused as it turned out that “my wife does know” beat “my wife doesn’t know” by the slightest of margins. The quiz scores moved around quite a bit during the night but the winner was Ms. Bovel’s family with 77 points, second place coming in at 72 points and 3rd place sneaking in with 68.5 (just like to say they pushed my in-laws out of 3rd place because they scored an extra point for being able to lick their elbow – I may never hear the end of it). There were also winners of the table quiz sheets with people showing their knowledge of famous fashions, Aussie Animals (some of us paid attention to what our kids bought home), the longest word made from the letters in “LATHLAIN PRIMARY” was PARAMILITARY, and name the fruit. I have included the answers below for those who were curious.
So a great night and excellent result. But obviously it doesn’t all happen on its own and there are many thanks to be give out. The fantastic markers, Emma T, Tania, Stacey, Cathy B., Bridget J and Liz. On the bar was Elisha Sansky and Rebecca McAdam keeping brains lubricated and Brett Turner and Sue Shadbolt, as always, helped out earlier in the day. There are also loads and loads of businesses who donated to the great prizes. I have listed them all below. If we can try to support the local business that supports us, then they are usually more than happy to help us out.
So what kind of prizes were we able to give out?
1st prize: carton beer; 6 bottles of wine; $250 dinner voucher for the Broken Hill Hotel; $50 Transit Voucher; $50 beauty voucher at Spa in the Park; 4 x Reading Cinema tickets
2nd Prize: Carton of beer; 5 bottles of wine; $50 Kids Paradise voucher and 1 free entry; $50 Spa in the park Beauty Voucher; Yellow tail hats; Water container; 2 x Adventure world tickets
3rd Prize: 2 bounce vouchers; $50 Transit voucher; 4 bottles of wine; 1 Carton of Carton of Salitos Beer; Hats; I free Kids Paradise entry, Toys in the Park voucher.
Table quiz winners went home with wine and food hampers provided by Bloom’n Boxes, Sweet Swiss, Liquor Barons, and Steve Irons.
And there was a whole range of door prizes and silent auction items like a Fitbit watch, Thermomix products, free dog wash/pool service/cleaning products and so much more.
And finally, we drew the raffle that was taken home by all the students over the past two weeks. The Samsung Galaxy Tablet donated by McArthur Real Estate was won by Jade Wallace; the robotic vacuum cleaner donated by Harvey Norman Belmont went to Engel and the 4 Adventure World tickets were taken home by Hazel Bovell.
