QUIZ NIGHT: It was a close game, but first prize was won by a whisker

The quiz night was held on Saturday night and judging by the laughter, food and some silly answers provided, everyone enjoyed the evening. We had a total of 19 tables filling the hall and thanks to the efforts of our capable MC (Daniel Richards) we moved through the 8 rounds with humour and speed, finishing up about 11pm. In between rounds everyone had a chance to take something home with plenty of door prizes and bonus quiz sheets to keep everyone in the game.

People’s knowledge was tested, with not many “admitting” to knowing the main characters names in 50 shades of grey, and some wide-ranging music knowledge was needed. I mean, who the hell is Gordon Lightfoot? And not too many people were familiar with the band Wigmore who sang Black Sheep either. The crowds understanding of Aussie slang was pretty good with most people knowing what a “dunny budgie” was and what it meant to put a “dead horse” on their “dog’s eye”. It was interesting to discover what a lot of nerdy parents we are at Lathlain with pretty much everyone knowing the names of the characters in The Big Bang Theory, but we came a bit unstuck when it came to the details of current affairs like “the name of the “whistleblower” involved in the Peel Health Campus scandal, or the names of Australians of the year for 2012 and 2013. If you are wondering what the answers to these questions are, then you can start getting ready to put together a table for next year’s Quiz Night.

  • The teachers were the winning team with 100.5 points, showing us just why they are doing such a good job with our kids. They were just ahead of second place who were on 100 points.
